Finding the Perfect Fit: My Journey to the Right Saddle with Equiline
![]()
As every rider knows, the relationship between horse and rider is built on trust, connection, and clear communication. But often overlooked in that equation is how much the right tack — especially the saddle — can affect that harmony. I learned this firsthand with my incredible 14-year-old KWPN gelding, whom I’ve had the joy of competing for the past four years. Finding the perfect saddle wasn’t just a matter of comfort; it was a game changer for both of us.
Why I Chose Equiline
I first heard about Equiline Saddles directly from Equiline themselves. At the time, I was on the hunt for a new saddle — not just any saddle, but one that truly fit both me and my horse. The saddle I had wasn’t working. It didn’t sit right on him, and truthfully, it wasn’t right for me either.
Fitting him is no small task. He has a deceptively complex back — large shoulders that are easily blocked, withers that are set further back than typical, and a short, narrow back. I needed a saddle that gave him freedom through his shoulders, didn’t restrict his withers, and let him use his body to the fullest — especially over jumps, where he gives it his all.
First Impressions & The Fitting Experience
When the Equiline rep came out for the fitting, I was instantly impressed. She showed up fully prepared — with a range of saddles and options to try. But more importantly, she didn’t rush the process. She took time to really watch my horse — how he moved, how he jumped, how he used his body on the flat. She also focused on me as a rider: my position, my needs, and even an old injury in my right leg. Her thoughtful attention and expertise meant everything.
The trial saddle immediately felt like a huge step forward. My horse moved with more freedom through his shoulder, and I noticed smoother turns and a softness in his back that hadn’t been there before. It felt like he could finally move the way he wanted to — without interference or restriction.
Getting Our Saddle
Once our custom Equiline saddle arrived, it was love at first ride. It was comfortable from the start — so much so that I showed in it almost immediately. It required very little break-in time, and my horse responded positively right away. It fit beautifully, and that feeling of connection between us only grew stronger.
The performance spoke for itself. Over time, I saw major changes in my horse’s physique — increased topline, muscle growth through his back and shoulders, and a much more fluid, balanced stride. He just felt good. I’ve also noticed that my own riding has improved. My leg position is more stable, my seat is stronger, and I feel more secure overall.
More Than Just a Saddle
What really sets Equiline apart, though, is the people. They continued to check in after the sale, coming back out to make sure everything still fit well — both for my horse and for me. I wasn’t just a customer; I became part of the Equiline family. That kind of care and dedication is rare in this industry.
Since then, I’ve added an Equiline bridle to our setup. Like the saddle, my horse needed something custom — of course, a standard bridle didn’t fit his head. The Equiline rep came out again with tons of parts and pieces, and we ended up with a bridle that fits him perfectly.
Would I Recommend Equiline?
Without hesitation. I haven’t put my Equiline saddle on a horse that didn’t go well in it. I’ve seen a consistent reduction in back issues, and in many cases, discomfort has completely gone away. The fit through the tree, the freedom of movement, the rider support — it all adds up to something special.
For anyone considering an Equiline saddle: you’re not just buying a piece of tack. You’re investing in your partnership with your horse, and you’re joining a team that truly cares. And in my experience, there’s no better feeling than that.
